A 27-year-old Billings man was hospitalized and cited after a late Thursday crash on the West End.
Billings police Sgt. Scott Conrad said that Chandler Marhsall Smith was taken to a Billings hospital with “extensive injuries” after the crash. Conrad indicated the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening at the scene. On Friday morning, Smith was listed in serious condition at St. Vincent Healthcare.
At about 9:40 p.m., police were called to the intersection of Poly Drive and Shiloh Road for a crash between a motorcycle and a car in which the rider appeared to be seriously injured.
Conrad said that a Subaru Impreza was northbound on Shiloh and attempted to turn left onto Poly when it collided with Yamaha motorcycle ridden by Smith, who was southbound on Shiloh.
The impact threw Smith about 35 yards from the motorcycle.
“Due to the excessive speed that the (motorcycle) rider was traveling at, the driver could not properly gauge the time it would take the (motorcycle) to reach the intersection,” Conrad wrote in a news release. “Due to this, the rider lost his right of way at the open two-way intersection and he was subsequently cited for reckless driving.”
The crash remains under investigation.
